What Started as an Unused Space is Now a Secure 26-Cycle Community Hub
Some projects are about far more than simply installing cycle parking.
They’re about solving challenges, transforming spaces, and creating infrastructure that delivers genuine long-term community benefit.
Our recent project at Clare Mount Specialist Sports College in Moreton is a perfect example.
Working as part of the wider Active Wirral initiative, the vision was to rejuvenate an underused external area into a proposed community cycling hub and café space — creating a secure, practical and welcoming environment that encourages active travel for both the school and wider local community.
Cycle-In were proud to be appointed to design, manufacture and install a bespoke secure timber-clad cycle shelter for 26 bicycles.

Every Great Project Starts with a Challenge
Looking at the finished installation, it’s easy to assume this was a straightforward shelter install.
It wasn’t.
The original area was heavily constrained, underused, and completely unsuitable for immediate installation.
One of the first major considerations was access.
The shelter needed to connect naturally with the proposed new garden/community area, while ensuring activity behind the installation zone remained unaffected.
That required a bespoke solution.
Working with the wider project team, a section of the existing brick boundary wall and fencing was carefully adapted to create a dedicated entrance route directly into the new secure cycle hub.
That single design decision transformed how the entire space could function.
Building the Right Foundations
Before our installation team could begin, the site required a full enabling works package.
Working in collaboration with Oxton Property Maintenance, the transformation included:
✔ Site clearance and excavation ✔ Boundary wall alterations ✔ Access route creation ✔ Hardcore formation works ✔ Edge restraint installation ✔ Bespoke reinforced concrete slab construction
This phase completely transformed the usability of the area — turning an awkward external space into a purpose-prepared infrastructure footprint.

Once the groundwork was complete, Cycle-In took over.
The shelter was:

The finished structure combines robust commercial-grade steel fabrication with warm timber cladding, creating a secure but visually sympathetic solution that complements the wider regeneration project.

This wasn’t an off-the-shelf shelter.
It was a fully bespoke infrastructure solution designed specifically for Clare Mount’s vision.
